Turkish giants Fenerbahce have entered talks with West Ham United over the possible signing of midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Manager Jose Mourinho wants his team to challenge in the Turkish Super Lig this season and also compete well in Europe. He believes the squad still needs key additions to reach that level.

The club have already signed Jhon Duran on loan from Al-Nassr. They are not stopping there, as more signings are expected before the transfer window closes.

Mourinho is reported to be a long-time admirer of the Mexican international and considers him an ideal option to add steel in midfield.

Interest grows in Alvarez

The 27-year-old joined West Ham from Ajax in a deal worth £34 million in 2023.

He has become an essential figure in the Hammers’ midfield, with his energy and discipline helping to balance the team.

Talks between Fenerbahce and West Ham are still at an early stage. Initial contact has been made, but nothing is finalised. Two other European clubs are exploring a move for Alvarez.

He is renowned for his versatility and strong defensive qualities. He reads the game well, tackles with precision, and intercepts dangerous passes with ease.

His work rate and positioning make him a very difficult opponent to pass.

Alvarez is comfortable on the ball and helps in building attacks from the back. He rarely gives the ball away and is effective at keeping possession under pressure.

Mourinho views him as a player who can offer strength and calmness, qualities that could help them mount a serious title challenge this season.
