Fenerbahce have made an offer for Sofyan Amrabat as Man United won’t pay price | OneFootball

Fenerbahce are keen on former Manchester United player Sofyan Amrabat and his club Fiorentina are currently unwilling to loan him back to Old Trafford.

The Moroccan midfielder spent last season on loan in Manchester and performed underwhelmingly to say the least.

He played 30 games in total for the Red Devils but only consistently made the starting lineup in the last month of the season when Casemiro had to fall back into the centre of defence due to an injury crisis.

He did have an impressive role in Manchester United’s glorious FA Cup victory over Manchester City, playing the entire 90 minutes and showing incredible energy and drive to help get the team over the line in a titanic effort that saw pundit Paul Scholes claim he played like Gennaro Gattuso.

Nonetheless, with United aiming to strengthen their midfield this summer, they have refused to pay the €20 million option they had to bring back Amrabat permanently.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport confirm that Amrabat has been back with Fiorentina since yesterday but does not want to stay.

The paper reports that Turkish side Fenerbahce are interested in signing the player and they claim that in Turkiye “they are (fairly) sure” they will land Amrabat.

“Fiorentina is asking for €15 million”, which has so far “alienated suitors who were not even that convinced of him (Olympiakos and Galatasaray).”

Jose Mourinho’s side have already offered “just over €10 million” and do not seem that far away from meeting the La viola’s price tag.

From United’s perspective “they will not spend €15 million to welcome him back, something they would only do with a repeated loan that is “unlikely for various reasons” as Fiorentina “are looking to sell the 28-year-old.”

The Moroccan has made it clear that he would love to stay at Old Trafford if given the chance but this looks slimmer and slimmer.

The Red Devils are currently locked in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte and there have also been reports that free agent Adrien Rabiot is giving preference to a move to United.

Nonetheless, as long as nobody signs Amrabat and perhaps if United struggle to pay for a more expensive midfield signing, United and the Moroccan could once again be forced into a marriage of convenience by the end of August.
