FC Utrecht sign former Volendam defender from Schalke 04 | OneFootball

FC Utrecht have announced the signing of Derry Murkin until 2029. The English left-back joins the Eredivisie club from Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04, where he has been playing since 2023. Schalke 04 signed Murkin for €800k a few seasons ago, after the defender came through the Volendam youth system.

Murkin was born in the UK but moved to the Netherlands when he was four years old. After coming through the youth system at Volendam he played 97 games for the club across the first and second tiers of Dutch football. He scored nine goals and provided 23 assists for the side. He was a major part of the sides promotion during the 2020/2021 season. During his time in Germany, Murkin has played 57 games for one of the Bundesliga’s fallen giants, providing nine assists and scoring one goal.

He joins a Utrecht side that are gearing up for European football next season after a fantastic season saw them finish in fourth place.
