FC Barcelona’s upcoming sale of Unai Hernández could unlock the door for Marcus Rashford’s departure from Manchester United.

Rashford’s future at United looks increasingly difficult as he has not kicked a ball in anger since mid December against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

His Old Trafford career appears even more complicated after Ruben Amorim claimed he would rather name his goalkeeping coach on the bench than a player who does not give 100% when asked about Rashford’s continued absence from the squad.

Numerous clubs have shown interest in the English attacker but it is Catalan giants Barcelona who have been most frequently mentioned.

It was believed that the sale of Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati or Eric Garcia could unlock the finances for Barca to do a deal for Rashford but they have been unable to sell any of these players.

Sports network beIN Sports have reported that the sale of Unai Hernández could breathe life into the Catalan club’s efforts to sign the winger.

“FC Barcelona could be close to adding a significant financial income thanks to the imminent departure of Unai Hernández, Barça Atlètic striker, who is about to close his signing with Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia.”

El Blaugrana are set to receive between €5-6 million, “a figure that could be key to strengthening the first team before the close of the winter market.”

La Masia product has been in good form for the youth team but he has decided to join the Saudi Arabian league.

Barcelona are incapable of matching the Saudi offer but his sale could “unlock the possibility” of an attacking reinforcement in January.

There is a cautionary statement towards the end of the article which suggests that “the dream of seeing Marcus Rashford wearing the Barça shirt depends on several pieces that still have to fit together”, even after the sale of Hernandez.

United fans will be keen to see a resolution to this saga as wages freed up from the attacker’s departure could help them land an offensive player to aid their goal-shy strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
