This morning, at the age of 80, Franco Cresci passed away.
Born in Milan on 15th September 1945, the steadfast defender came through the ranks at Inter before joining Bologna, where he played from 1968 to 1979. Recording a total of 404 appearances in league and cup competitions, he ranks sixth in the club’s history for matches played, behind only Bulgarelli, Roversi, Reguzzoni, Nervo, and Perani. It was alongside Tazio Roversi that he formed the outstanding full-back partnership that was one of the team’s main strengths throughout the 1970s. He helped the Club win two Coppa Italia titles (1970 and 1974) and the Anglo-Italian League Cup (1970).
A marker through and through, skilled both as a full-back and in the centre, Franco was deeply loved by the Rossoblù family, who mourn his loss today. He was a true pillar of our Club. To his family, his friends, and all who loved him, Bologna FC 1909 extends its deepest condolences, as the club bids farewell to one of its most beloved.
