West Ham may well have won the ‘El Sackio’ against Wolves, but it hasn’t done much to lift belief amongst the fan base.

Julen Lopetegui has been under considerable pressure in recent weeks, following what has been a poor season so far, with little evidence to show that things under the Spaniard are to come good.

The match against Wolves was dubbed ‘El Sackio’ as both Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil faced the potential sack – with the Hammers coming away 2-1 winners, although the performance certainly did not alleviate concerns in east London.

One shining light of late though is the form of PSG loanee Carlos Soler, who appears to be getting to grips with the demands of the Premier League, with the Spain international admitting that he’s relieved his time has now come.

“This is what I wanted,” Soler told the clubs Official Website. “For me, it was very important to enter the [starting] line-up, and not only in one match or two matches.

“This was my fourth [start] in a row so for me, it’s important as it gives me confidence and I feel it being on the pitch. I only want to play and to help my teammates to win and to score goals. I know I’m really close to scoring and assisting myself, but it will come.”

Soler has now pleaded with fans, who are angry and concerned at where the club is heading this season under Lopetegui – with calls for the hierarchy to call time and bring in Graham Potter, who we understand is now on standby to step in.

Soler though has stressed that time and patience is still needed, however many will argue too that other clubs in similar situations of high levels of change are firmly up and running, while West Ham appear to be a side lost and lacking direction.

“This is a new project,” added Soler. “It’s different from the last four or five seasons with a new coach and a lot of new players. I think it’s a project and needs time. We are trying to do our best.

“We know that fans could maybe be angry with some games, because we lost so many games. They were difficult games, but we could do better, and we didn’t do it so yes, it takes time, but I think we are in the good way so, let’s do it for the second half of the season.”
