Leeds United added top-level quality to the goalkeeping department with the arrival of Brazilian Lucas Perri.
The 27-year-old stopper joins the club on a four-year deal, signing from Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais with whom he made 33 appearances in the French top-flight last campaign.
Below are eight facts and figures about our latest recruit...
Lucas has briefly experienced English football before, joining Crystal Palace on loan in 2019. Representing the Eagles’ Academy, the goalkeeper faced the Whites’ Under-23s side, coming up against future teammate Pascal Struijk!
Perri has also featured against fellow new signing Gabriel Gudmundsson three times from their time in France for Lyon and Lille respectively. The goalkeeper came out on top winning two of the three matches, with the teams playing out a 1-1 draw in the other encounter.
The goalkeeper becomes just the fourth Brazilian to play for the club, following in the footsteps of defender Roque Júnior, midfielder Adryan and Barcelona star Raphinha.
Using data taken from Statmuse, Perri made 116 saves in 33 matches for Lyon in the French top-flight last campaign, conceding just 44 goals for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
His former boss is a big fan, with Fonseca labelling Perri “the best in the world” earlier in the year after commanding performances both in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League.
The form led to a call up to the Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina in March. Previously the 27-year-old has featured for the Seleção’s Under-20s and Olympics squad.
Experienced at the highest level, Perri played a crucial role in helping Lyon reach the quarter-finals of last season’s Europa League. The stopper played in seven of Les Gones’ league phase matches as they finished sixth, before impressing against FC Steaua București in the Round of 16.
Perri made his debut for boyhood club São Paulo in a 2-1 victory over Centro Sportivo Alagoano in 2019. The 27-year-old has also enjoyed spells in his homeland with Náutico and Botafogo.
