Fabrizio Romano Claims Liverpool Are Not in Race to Sign Linked 22-year-old

As all eyes now turn to the upcoming transfer window, few teams are expected to have a more interesting summer than Liverpool as Arne Slot arrives. The Dutchman has a lot of different tasks to overcome in the transfer market, with one of those being signing another forward to add depth and quality to the Reds’ front line.

More specifically a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah has been towards the top of those priorities for a while now and a lot of Liverpool supporters are expecting movement in that department this summer. One of the names being heavily linked has been Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, but Fabrizio Romano has seemingly poured cold water on those hopes in his recent twitter update.

Romano’s Update

Revealing on his twitter page, Romano claims that: “Chelsea and Manchester United are the two clubs that are pushing for Michael Olise, one to watch in the summer.”

Obviously based on this update, Liverpool are either yet to express their interest in the 22-year-old or set to sit out on this race completely. Either way, that will be news that a lot of Liverpool supporters will not be happy to hear.

Time to Change the Tale

It’s also important to keep in mind though, that there’s a long way to go in this summer transfer window and everything at this stage is purely speculation. Although Chelsea and Manchester United are the two clubs pushing for Olise at the moment, that could change at any moment, especially when Arne Slot’s arrival is fully tied up.

As mentioned above, it would be a surprise if Liverpool do not move for a forward in the summer – and Olise was simply expected to be pretty high up on their list of identifies targets by many.

Potential Alternatives

Should Liverpool decide not to join the race for Michael Olise, then there could be a few different alternatives that they could turn to in that attacking department. Players like Johan Bakayoko, Mohammed Kudus and Federico Chiesa have also been linked with a move to Liverpool – although the latter being very weak.

PSV’s Bakayoko would definitely be an interesting option and is one that has been linked with a switch to Anfield for a number of years now. On the other hand, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus also seems unlikely to leave the Hammers this summer due to the £85million release clause that will be available to trigger from next summer.

That leaves Liverpool in a situation where patience is key and perhaps they may even lean towards waiting for their perfect target to come along in the future – much like what Michael Edwards did with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk in the past.

I was certainly hoping to see Liverpool make a move for Michael Olise this summer, but as expected, patience and perspective will be key under this new regime under Edwards.
