Manchester United are ready to raise their offer for Lecce wingback Patrick Dorgu after having their initial bid rejected.

The 20-year-old has recently emerged as the Red Devils’ first choice to bolster the left flank that has been weakened by the recurring absence of the injury-riddled Luke Shaw.

The Denmark international has been excellent for Lecce this term and is widely considered as one of the best revelations in Serie A. His teammate Nikola Kristovic has described him as an incredible player while comparing him to AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.

The youngster is originally a left-back, but has also been deployed as an inverted right winger in the Giallorossi’s 4-3-3 system, thus making him a versatile option for his club.

Therefore, Man Utd are keen to lure the young player to Old Trafford this January, and the club’s officials have been negotiating a deal with the Lecce hierarchy.

The Premier League giants have reportedly made an opening bid worth circa €27 million, but it fell short of Lecce’s valuation. The Serie A minnows have set their asking price at €40 million, as they aren’t keen to part ways with their prized asset in the middle of the campaign, especially when they’re still embroiled in a relegation dogfight.

Nevertheless, United are reportedly persisting in their efforts to land their transfer target, so they have returned with a new and improved offer.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have submitted a bid north of €30 million, thus closing the gap with Lecce’s asking price. The transfer market insider reveals that the two clubs are still negotiating in their attempts to find a definitive agreement.

Hence, it remains to be seen if INEOS will manage to land their priority target before the end of the month.
