Chelsea are keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues looked at bringing a forward in during the January window but opted against it as they felt there were a lack of good value options available.

Enzo Maresca’s men were linked with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Ipswich striker Liam Delap, but nothing materialised.

Failure to bring in a striker could cost Chelsea in their race for the top four and they paid for it on deadline day with both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu picking up injuries.

Maresca confirmed last week Guiu would be out for a number of weeks, although he was confident Jackson would return for Friday’s trip to Brighton.

However, Chelsea were rocked by the news on Wednesday evening that Jackson would be sidelined until April with a hamstring injury.

This currently leaves the Blues with Christopher Nkunku to lead the line or Cole Palmer playing as a false nine, unless they turn to the academy.

Reports are surprisingly stating that Chelsea feel they can cope with the absence of both Guiu and Jackson, whilst they are believed to be tracking Sporting Lisbon striker Conrad Harder.

A winger and a striker are said to be a priority for the summer, although qualifying for the top four will be tough now, but Romano has said on his YouTube channel the Blues are keeping a close on Sesko.

The race for Sesko is set to be competitive with Arsenal also interested in his services, and if the Blues are to have any chance they will need to be able to offer Champions League football.

Sesko is a huge talent and the 21-year-old has 33 goals in 72 appearances for RB Leipzig and nine goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances this campaign.
