Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle with Girona to send young defender Vitor Reis on loan. According to Fabrizio Romano, “formal steps to follow then Reis will travel for medical and contract signing.” It marks a strategic step in the development of the highly rated talent, offering valuable first-team experience in La Liga.

Girona, part of the City Football Group, continue to be a key destination for City’s emerging prospects looking for senior minutes in a competitive environment.
Vitor Reis is not yet a name on the lips of every fan at the Etihad, but those tracking the club’s youth pipeline know his potential.
This loan to Girona, a club within the City Football Group umbrella, is more than a typical youth move. Girona play a possession-based style not too far removed from City’s tactical identity. That continuity offers the player a chance to gain experience without departing from the principles instilled at the CFA.
Supporters will watch with interest to see how Reis adapts to the pace and technical demands of La Liga. With City often seeking to replenish squad depth through internal development rather than immediate transfer spending, loans like this are designed to prepare young players for meaningful roles in future campaigns.
Reis will not be expected to return as a ready-made first-team player. But if he progresses in Spain, a place on next summer’s pre-season tour may well follow. In a club where pathway planning is paramount, this move looks to be the next calculated step.
