Manchester United winger Antony is unlikely to seal a January loan switch to Greek side Olympiacos.
Antony has struggled to live up to his massive price tag since he joined United in the summer of 2022 from Ajax as Erik ten Hag’s marquee signing.
The Brazilian has managed just five goals in the Premier League during his time so far at Old Trafford. He fell out of favour under Ten Hag and has failed to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans since his appointment as head coach.
INEOS are understood to be eager to cut their losses and offload Antony as soon as this month.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Olympiacos are interested in temporarily signing the struggling 24-year-old.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is very little chance of Antony joining the reigning Europa Conference League champions before deadline day.
Romano wrote on X, “Antony’s move to Olympiacos not considered as a concrete/likely option at this stage of the market. Understand after initial approach days ago, talks have not progressed on both player and club sides.”
Romano also said on his YouTube channel, “My understanding is the deal is not advancing, the deal is not concrete, the deal is not something really likely to happen in the January window.”
“So Olympiacos, as well as many other clubs, including clubs from Spain, Italy are calling to understand the conditions of the Antony deal.”
“But Manchester United are not willing to pay the whole salary of the player first of all. That would make no sense, obviously, for Manchester United and also my understanding is that from the player’s side, Olympiacos is not considered a priority now.”
“Nothing really concrete or imminent for Antony and Olympiacos.”
This information was reiterated by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg who explained that while a deal is “not fully off”, it’s “very very complicated” to get over the line.
Antony and his teammates are back in action on Sunday when they face Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
