Former Roma manager Fabio Capello weighed in on the capital club’s managerial search for next season.
In an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1, Capello spoke in Ranieri’s favor as his preferred candidate to stay on Roma’s bench beyond this season.
“Ranieri is an old man who excels at giving advice, he is listened to and understood by the players because he strikes the right chords,” he said.
“Ranieri is the right man to bring serenity back to the team, the players and the fans. He is demonstrating that he understands a lot about football, the results are a logical consequence of his wisdom.”
“Many times, in these cases, it is said that a coach is done. Ancelotti was done and now he is winning everything at Real, Ranieri was done and he is doing well at Rome. Experience is an important quality.”
“Roma already have their version of a Roman Ancelotti in Ranieri,” he added.
“I have some doubts as to whether Ranieri will really move on to an executive role within the club. If he does well, maybe he will be offered another year of contract extension and he will probably accept, with a universal role, as both manager and executive, similar to Alex Ferguson. Ranieri can do the same.”
