FLW takes a look at Chair's current contract/transfer scenario at the R's

Ilias Chair has been a brilliant player for Queens Park Rangers since making his debut in the 2017/18 season, but where does his future lie regarding his contract/transfer situation?

Chair has seemingly been QPR's prized possession in recent years, with the Moroccan providing flair and strong attacking returns from the left-wing.

His future has been up in the air in recent years with the R's not really progressing with their status in the Championship, and a player of Chair's quality could warrant a move up the ladder.

The 26-year-old is reaching the peak of his career and Rangers' fans may have a slight worry over Chair's stance towards QPR.

Not only this, but interest has been shown in the winger over the years, and he has dedicated his loyalty to the Rangers faithful in the past, so that certainly can't be used against him.

Here is everything you need to know regarding Chair's current contract situation and what could possibly happen in the near future.

Back in 2021, the Moroccan winger signed a new long-term deal after impressing in the first half of the 2020/21 season. This deal could see Chair stay until the summer of 2025, with the R's smartly including a one-year extension if it comes to that.

This relieves some pressure on QPR, with a hefty fee no doubt being needed to be paid if he was to depart in January, or even next summer, with the extension triggered.

Fellow Championship side, Leeds United, looked to make a late move for Chair in the summer window just gone, but a move never materialised and Chair remained at Loftus Road.

The R's will have to be wary over Chair's immediate future, with next summer cementing their last chance to gain a fee for the winger, unless he chooses to sign a new long-term deal.

When previously asked about Chair's situation by FLW, a QPR fan was convinced the club should secure a fee ranging from £10-15 million.

His future is up in the air, but the ball is in QPR's court at the current moment.

Speaking on Chair's current contract situation, it could be perceived he is being underpaid by the club. As one of QPR's star players, Chair should surely warrant one of the highest wages.

However, according to an estimate by Capology, the Moroccan is believed to earn just under £7,000 a week, coming out on the lower side of the squad's wage bill.

This could be in the back of Chair's mind as well as his ambition to move out of the Championship or to a club more likely to be in the promotion race.

Taking into account QPR's current situation in the Championship, this doesn't bode well for the R's, who sit in the relegation zone and haven't won eight games in all competitions.

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes might be able to persuade Chair to stay, if the R's form turns around very quickly.

The ball may be in QPR's court, but Chair knows his time will come to negotiate.
