The winter transfer market has closed without witnessing any major changes in the FC Barcelona squad. However, the Catalans were still able to meet most of their objectives for this period, i.e., the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and the renewals of Araujo, Pedri, and Gavi.
However, the closure of the market still left one player on the Blaugrana payroll highly uncertain about his future, i.e., the youngster Pau Prim.
The midfielder was linked with a move to the Qatari club Al-Sadd in the last phases of the winter transfer window, but the move did not ultimately materialize.
As SPORT has noted, this leaves Prim in a highly precarious situation, as he has not been making even the squad for the last few weeks because he has refused to renew his contract with Barcelona.
The report claims that the only way he can again get minutes in a Blaugrana jersey would be if he opens the door to a contract negotiation. As things stand, it is already clear that he will not be leaving the Catalan club with anything if he leaves in the summer, as his current contract ends on 30th June this year.
Thus, a departure in the winter window was the best-suited scenario for all the involved parties, as the player and the Blaugrana club are quite far away in their respective positions. In addition to Al-Sadd, the Saudi club Al-Qadisiya also put forward an offer for him. However, the transfer window is closed in both of these countries as well.
To make things even more complicated, Barcelona Atlètic are also not having a very good season, and having a player of his quality available but not utilized is also not in the best interests of the club.
Still, Barcelona are not budging, and it remains to be seen what direction Pau Prim’s future will take in the coming months.
