Exclusive: Manchester United scout Porto duo – including 17-year-old wonderkid | OneFootball

Manchester United scouts have watched over Porto players Samu Aghehowa and Rodrigo Mora in recent weeks, sources have told CaughtOffside.

The Red Devils are thought to be eyeing a significant overhaul of their squad but are currently restricted on what they can do owing to spending limits under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Nevertheless, United are preparing for the long term and have identified the Porto youngsters as potential buys.

Aghehowa, who was the subject of the highly-publicised transfer saga involving Chelsea over the summer, moved to the Portuguese outfit just before the season started, arriving at the Estadio do Dragao for £12.5 million from Atletico Madrid.

The deal, which included a 50% sell-on clause and a £82 million release clause, has proved to be a shrewd piece of business – the striker has been on fire this campaign, with 18 goals and two assists in 21 matches.

United are also keeping tabs on 17-year-old attacking midfielder Mora. The teenager is enjoying a fine breakout season under Vítor Bruno, with six goal contributions, including three goals, in seven Liga Portugal matches so far this season.

Mora, too, has a release clause inserted in his contract, worth around £55 million, but it’s not clear whether Porto would be open to letting him leave for less.

In terms of the January window, CaughtOffside sources have been informed that Antony and Christian Eriksen will be allowed to leave, with Real Betis thought to be keen on the former. As well, several Saudi Pro League clubs are keeping an eye on Casemiro’s situation, which could free up funds for January.

The club are hopeful of bolstering the left-wing-back role in the winter window, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kekez liked. There have also been conversations around Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes, who United have tracked since 2021.
