Luton Town have agreed a £300k fee with Gillingham for striker Joseph Gbode.
Luton Town have agreed a £300k fee with League Two side Gillingham for striker Joseph Gbode, sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World.
The Hatters are set for a busy day in the transfer market, with the likes of Ali Al-Hamadi and Ethon Archer linked to the club, with a deal for winger Shaydon Morris already wrapped up.
However, there's more, as sources have exclusively informed Football League World that Matt Bloomfield's side have agreed a £300k fee for Gillingham striker Joseph Gbode.
The striker has been a long-term target of Luton this summer, and despite having two bids rejected, it now looks like Bloomfield is set to get his man, as he and his former colleague Gareth Ainsworth have settled on a fee to bring the 20-year-old to Kenilworth Road.
Gbode will now undergo a medical before formalising his move to Luton, in what will be yet another statement of intent from the former Premier League side.
It's been a hugely busy window for the Bedfordshire side, as they look to right the wrongs of last season, and fire themselves back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
The club's attack is looking set to undergo huge change on deadline day, with Morris being a done deal, Al-Hamadi and Archer both already linked, and Cauley Woodrow seemingly set for an exit, after being depicted at Wycombe Wanderers' Marlow Road training facility.
However, three isn't enough for Luton, as sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World that the League One side have agreed a £300k fee for long-term target Gbode, who is currently plying his trade in League Two at Gillingham.
The 20-year-old has scored one goal in four league outings for the table-topping Gills, and is now set to complete a move to Kenilworth Road before the transfer window closes at 7pm.
The Hatters had previously had two bids rejected for Gbode earlier in the window, but have now reached a breakthrough at the third attempt.
One search of Gbode's name reveals a goalscoring record that leaves a lot to be desired at League Two level, with just four goals to his name in 58 outings for Gillingham over the course of his career.
However, at only 20, it's clear Luton have seen this as a potential investment for the future, and not someone who will be expected to come in and lead the line from the start, as Town have other options to do just that.
With his huge potential and impressive performances this season, it seems likely that Gbode will be joining the Hatters with the view of him being a rough diamond, who they can mould into a star in the future.
