It was recently revealed that the Owls owe £4 million worth of debts over the last two months, casting further doubt over the future of longstanding owner Dejphon Chansiri as a takeover nears.

Meanwhile, Danny Rohl has returned to Yorkshire to manage Wednesday after a summer of pushing for a move away from the club. The German has taken training with the playing squad, according to journalist Rob Staton.

With the worrying financial issues surrounding the club, it’s rather surprising to see the Owls linked with an incoming, but the club have been touted for a reunion with Scottish midfielder Stuart Armstrong after his deal at Hillsborough ran down earlier this summer.

As per journalist Alan Nixon, the 51-cap Scottish international has been linked with a move back to Yorkshire, with Armstrong’s willingness to accept a pay-cut seemingly crucial for this deal to happen.

Armstrong featured 11 times for Wednesday last term, failing to score while contributing one assist.

With this in mind, pundit Don Goodman has discussed his thoughts about this move developing.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Don Goodman has doubts over whether Stuart Armstrong would find a move to Sheffield Wednesday attractive given the mess the club continues to be in.

Goodman said: “I just don't know whether Sheffield Wednesday are going to be able to attract players of Stuart Armstrong's calibre at this precise moment.

“Now if a sale goes through or is announced, then that might be a very different matter, but even then it would be a case of whether or not that three-window EFL transfer embargo would be lifted in the event of all debts being settled. That would be a massive factor in whether or not Sheffield Wednesday could attract players of the calibre of Stuart Armstrong.”

Stuart Armstrong could be a favourable addition for Sheffield Wednesday on the right terms

Sheffield Wednesday aren’t exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to recruitment this summer, but the club certainly need some quality additions in the forward areas of the pitch after losing Anthony Musaba, while Djeidi Gassama’s switch to Rangers could still go through.

Stuart Armstrong didn’t light up the Championship after his move to Hillsborough, recording just a single attacking contribution, but he only earned 538 minutes in that time.

Wednesday could see a surge in quality from the midfielder if he had a regular starting role in the side, with the 33-year-old playing a key role in Southampton’s 2024 promotion winning season, as well as possessing plenty of Premier League pedigree.

If Wednesday can negotiate a reduction in wages to suit their demands and Armstrong is willing to accept, then it may well be worth pursuing as the club desperately needs a spark in the final third.

The Owls require experienced characters more than ever in such a challenging period, and Armstrong could be the man to help deliver some joy and excitement on the pitch.
