The Hornets are currently undergoing some exciting changes under new head coach Paulo Pezzolano, although it is owner Gino Pozzo who is pulling the strings in an attempt to get the Hertfordshire outfit challenging for Premier League promotion once more.

Bayern Munich winger Nestory Irankunda is set to arrive to add to the likes of Luca Kjerrumgaard, Hector Kyprianou, Othmane Maamma among other new recruits, but one player that Watford have been linked with signing appears to be no longer an option for the club.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Watford were pursuing a reunion with ex-England international Ashley Young - some 18-and-a-half years after he departed Vicarage Road for Aston Villa in 2007.

Claims emerged that Young - now 40 years of age - was finally keen to return to where his career started, but the final decision would rest at the hands of new manager Pezzolano.

And despite the interest from both sides in making a deal happen, FLW has been exclusively told that Young will not be making a return to his boyhood club this summer, despite the aforementioned links.

That may be somewhat of a blow to Watford fans who were keen to see Young in a yellow shirt for one more season, and that is all he may have left in his career as his age increases.

Young played 110 times for Watford as a youngster, including 20 games in the Premier League before his sale to Aston Villa, and he would go on to represent England 39 times at international level.

The veteran proved his fitness levels were still there last season despite his advancing years by playing 32 times in the Premier League for Everton, starting for most of the first half of the season at right-back but he was also used further up the pitch as a winger by David Moyes as he was used as a substitute for the majority of the second part of the campaign.
