Speaking ahead of his team’s Coppa Italia clash against Sassuolo, former Roma and current Milan boss Paulo Fonseca addressed the situation involving Edoardo Bove, reflecting on the difficult moments surrounding the player’s health scare.

The Fiorentina midfielder, who’s on loan from Roma, collapsed during the early part of his team’s league fixture against Inter. After being rushed to the hospital, the 22 year-old spent the night in the intensive care unit at Careggi University Hospital.

Thankfully, Fiorentina announced earlier today that the player is awake and doing well—with additional tests to be carried out in the coming days.

“I gave Edoardo (Bove) his debut—I was watching the match last night and it was a very, very difficult moment,” Fonseca told media members during a press conference.

“He worked with me during my time at Roma, and I’m deeply saddened by what happened to him. Right now the most important thing is his health, not football.”

He added, “On behalf of myself, the team, and the club, I want to send him a big hug. He’s been on the minds of everyone here at Milanello and we’ve talked a lot about what happened. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
