Former Juventus star Fabrizio Ravanelli feels that one of Luciano Spalletti’s ‘biggest’ errors at EURO 2024 was to use a four-man defence but admits Italy players are also at fault: ‘They were afraid to play.’

The former Azzurri striker analysed Italy’s poor results at EURO 2024 during an interview with Radio Deejay.

“One of the biggest errors was that this Italy side can’t play with a four-man defence,” he said.

“There are players who can’t be part of the national team. If you are dynamic, you can’t play at high levels nowadays. We could not create attacking solutions and have identity, but the worst thing is that we didn’t have players with personality.

“It’s impossible that all players were not fit, and I saw fear in their eyes,” continued the 1996 Juventus Champions League winner.

“The coach must instil a certain mentality. The national team didn’t represent us. There was no involvement or desire. I was lucky to wear the Azzurri shirt, and I felt so strong, but many were afraid to play.”
