A positive display by Juan Cuadrado was one of the only bright spots for Inter Milan in a surprise Serie A defeat against Sassuolo.

Key players like Lautaro Martinez, Alessandro Bastoni, and Benjamin Pavard did not look at their best.

And while it would be hard to put too much blame on players like Davide Frattesi, Kristjan Asllani, and Alexis Sanchez coming into the lineup, the changes probably resulted in a lack of fluidity more than a boost in energy for Inter.

However, there was one player who did give the Nerazzurri a real shot in the arm.

In the second half of yesterday’s match, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to introduce Cuadrado for Denzel Dumfries.

The Colombian has been a more or less bit part player for Inter this season.

Cuadrado had made a number of substitute appearances for the Nerazzurri in the first half of the campaign. But just one start.

Then in December, Cuadrado underwent surgery to correct a nagging tendon problem.

Therefore, the former Juventus and Chelsea veteran missed more than three months of action.

However, Cuadrado got a chance to show that his quality is still there yesterday.

And the 35-year-old took the opportunity very well.

As soon as Cuadrado came on, Inter had more of an outlet on their right flank than they had at any point when Dumfries was on the pitch.

The Colombian was constantly getting himself into space and showing for the ball.

And once Cuadrado would get the ball, he was able to run at the Sassuolo defense very effectively.

There were several moments in which Cuadrado’s dribbles and trickery came close to unlocking the Neroverdi defense.
