Former Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni feels that Davide Frattesi is “one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe.”

The former coach praised the 24-year-old on RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, after Italy’s Nations League win over France yesterday. He argued that Frattesi is unfortunate to be at a club with so much midfield depth.

Frattesi started for Italy yesterday in the first of two Nations League matches during the international break for the Azzurri.

The former Sassuolo midfielder has yet to nail down a starting spot for himself at Inter.

This season, Frattesi has come off the bench in all three of Inter’s Serie A matches so far. But he has yet to play from the start.

For Italy, however, the 24-year-old remains a regular starter.

Frattesi has broken into the Azzurri team under Roberto Mancini. And under Spalletti, he has played an even more prominent role.

Stramaccioni: “Davide Frattesi One Of Europe’s Best Box-To-Box Midfielders”

Frattesi certainly put in an outstanding display yesterday.

The Inter midfielder got on the scoresheet. That has certainly become a familiar sight, both for club and country.

And Frattesi’s energy and direct style of play were at the heart of how Italy played to turn things around and win 3-1, overruning France after conceding an early goal.

Former Inter coach Stramaccioni said that “Fortunately for him, and I say this jokingly, but he has Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of him at Inter.”

“Those are two extraordinary players,” the ex-coach said.

“But this is lucky for Inter,” Stramaccioni continued.

“He always gives his contribution, and always does so with ferocity,” he said of Frattesi.

“At Inter, he does it by changing matches as a substitute. And he did so again this evening.”

“For me, he’s one of the best midfielders in Europe, especially inside the last sixteen metres,” Stramaccioni argued of Frattesi.
