Goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that there is no doubt that Inter Milan is the right place for him at this point in his career.

The 35-year-old spoke to Swiss broadcaster SRF, via FCInterNews, after giving his press conference to announce his retirement from international duty. He also spoke about getting “goosebumps” at the San Siro.

Today, Sommer officially announced that he will no longer play for the Swiss national team.

The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach has hung up his gloves at international level after twelve years.

Sommer has five international tournaments under his belt. He has made a total of 94 appearances for Switzerland since 2012.

But now, the veteran keeper is stepping aside for the new generation.

That does not mean that Sommer does not have more to give at club level, however.

The Swiss has already established a top reputation for himself over the years.

Sommer spent the majority of his career in the Bundesliga. He was at Gladbach for eight and a half years, before joining Bayern Munich for half a season where he won his first and only German top flight title.

But then last summer, Sommer decided to seek out a new challenge.

The Swiss joined Inter. In his first season at the San Siro, he instantly became the first-choice starter.

Sommer won the Serie A title in his first season at Inter. And now he is targeting another one.

Sommer declared that “I feel very good here at Inter.”

“And I’m doing very well there, playing in goal for a big club.”

“I’ve always said that I’ll keep playing football for as long as I’m enjoying it,” Sommer said.

“When I step out onto the pitch at the San Siro, it gives me goosebumps,” the 35-year-old admitted.

“That shows me that I’m at the right place.”

Sommer said of retiring from international duty that “Now I’ll have a little more time for other things.”

“Like my family,” the Swiss explained. “But also for the trophies that I still want to win with Inter.
