Everton’s recruitment drive under David Moyes has taken a significant turn with credible reports from AS suggesting that the Toffees are “willing to bet” on Atlético Madrid winger Samuel Lino. The Brazilian, who trained this week under Diego Simeone’s watchful eye in Los Ángeles de San Rafael, is said to be among the players Atlético are open to selling.
Lino was part of a smaller-sided training match this week, grouped alongside fellow fringe players such as Thomas Lemar, Jano and Rayane. While Lemar remains a subject of interest from Lyon, AS note that “Lino’s case is different” and crucially add, “Atlético would be very happy with a departure and the rojiblanco club is listening to offers for him.” That has seemingly alerted Everton, who are understood to be seriously considering a move.
Lino’s pace, trickery and aggression from wide areas would suit Moyes’ evolving blueprint at Goodison Park. With the manager seeking to blend youth and energy into his squad, the 24-year-old represents a player with prime physical attributes for the Premier League. His time on loan at Valencia and then back at Atlético has been marked by bursts of form and versatility, something Everton have lacked from wide areas in recent campaigns.

The clearest signal yet of Lino’s potential departure lies in AS’s admission that “if Lino leaves, the rojiblanca sporting management would reinforce the team on the wing.” This is a telling indication that an exit is being actively planned for and that Atlético are ready to move quickly once an offer is accepted.
While no formal bid has yet been reported, the growing intensity of speculation around Everton’s interest suggests that exploratory discussions may already be underway. Moyes, known for backing technically gifted South American talent in the past, may feel that Lino could offer both immediate value and longer-term resale potential, especially if he adapts quickly to English football.
As an Everton supporter, this kind of link is exactly what you want to see. Samuel Lino ticks boxes that have long gone unchecked at Goodison Park. Pace? Check. Directness? Absolutely. Flair? We’ve been starved of it since Richarlison left. If Moyes can get Lino firing, we might finally have someone who terrifies defenders again.
There’s a lot to like about this rumour. First, it shows ambition. Going after an Atlético Madrid player, even one who is considered surplus, speaks to the club trying to raise its standards. Secondly, Lino is the kind of player we’ve missed — someone who can stretch the pitch and create from nothing. I’ve seen enough of him at Valencia to know he has the raw materials, and under a manager like Moyes, with clear expectations, he could really thrive.
Most importantly, this doesn’t feel like another desperate, late-window panic move. There’s strategy here. Lino is 24, has played at a high level and comes from a club with intensity drilled into its DNA. If we’re serious about climbing the table and giving Goodison something to believe in again, this is the calibre of player we should be chasing.
Bring him in.
