Everton have struggled to create a permanent identity for the past few seasons. There was a time when the club were firmly established in mid-table, but in recent years they have been seen struggling with the threat of relegation. Their stability in the Premier League have been broken, and frequent management changes, as well as a lack of confidence on the field, have been a big problem for the club. David Moyes has provided some stability, but the depth and quality of the team are still under question.

In such a situation, the Toffees are now looking for some players who can give balance to the team. They might be looking for a player who can strengthen the midfield and become a shield in front of the backline. This search have drawn the club’s attention to the midfielder who has performed impressively in England before and is currently struggling in Serie A.

According to a report by Football Insider, Everton had approached Juventus for midfielder Douglas Luiz, but initial attempts were unsuccessful. It is reported that the club will have to pay £40 million to complete the deal. Luiz’s previous experience in the Premier League has been excellent with Aston Villa. There, he not only gave balance to the midfield but also played as the pivot of the team on multiple occasions.

Luiz is a player who controls the game from deep midfield. His passing range, tackling skills and positioning make him suitable for the Premier League. His time at Juventus has been lacklustre, but a return to England can give him confidence again. A club like Everton need such a profile.

Will this move be right for the Toffees?

If Everton makes a big investment in Douglas Luiz, it will show the team’s intention that they are now serious about improving. Luiz is still in the prime of his career and has the experience to come in handy in the Premier League. However, £40 million is a big gamble, especially when the club are not very strong financially.

However, given the player’s history, this gamble could pay off handsomely for Everton. Luiz’s profile fits exactly into the system that Moyes wants—discipline, defensive solidity and the ability to move the ball forward efficiently. If Everton pull off this transfer, it will not only strengthen the midfield but also ease the pressure on the backline. It’s a calculated risk, and if all goes well, Luiz could be the symbol of change for the Toffees.
