Everton plotting Luton Town transfer raid for 26-year-old

Luton Town earned plenty of admirers across their solitary season in the Premier League.

After winning promotion 12 months ago, Rob Edwards and his side were immediately made favourites for relegation back to the Championship before a ball had even been kicked. However, the Hatters can still be proud of their valiant efforts to remain in the top flight, despite the fact their relegation was confirmed on the final day of the season.

For many of this squad, it was their first ever taste of Premier League football across their respective careers, with some of those acclimatising to life in the division extremely well, including strikers Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo.

This was proven by the fact that the duo had netted 21 of the side's 52 strikes overall, and this has already led to speculation just a day after the season reached its conclusion, with the latter coming in for Premier League interest.

Everton in potential swoop for Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo

That's as a result of a report from TEAMtalk, who state that Everton are looking at the possibility of offering Adebayo the chance to remain a Premier League striker heading into next season.

The report goes on to state that Edwards and the Luton hierarchy are bracing themselves for a plethora of bids across the summer for their star performers, and Adebayo has more than put himself in that category across the season.

Sources close to the publication state that Sean Dyche is a big admirer of the former Walsall striker, and would value him as a "key addition" in a summer where a major rebuild is expected ahead of the Toffees' final season at Goodison Park.

Furthermore, the report continues by stating that the Everton boss believes Adebayo would be the "perfect foil" in his side, alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto, who have both struggled to stay fit and find the net on a consistent basis, with the Merseyside outfit only scoring 40 times across the 38 top flight games.

Adebayo's final goal of the season ironically came against Dyche's men in a 1-1 draw on May 3.

As previously highlighted, the 26-year-old has performed admirably in a side who were always fighting against the odds to preserve their status in the top division.

Across 27 Premier League appearances and 16 starts, he found the net on 10 occasions, with the first of those coming in a 2-1 defeat against Burnley on October 3, before netting his first away goal of the season in a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest two weeks later.

Adebayo's purple patch of the season came in a run of seven goals in eight games between December 5 and February 3, which included a remarkable hat-trick in a 4-0 demolition of Brighton and Hove Albion at Kenilworth Road.

No price tag has been mooted around this potential move, but the fine form Adebayo has shown in a solitary season of top flight football showcases that he would be a savvy option for those looking to improve their goalscoring output.

Luton Town potentially eyeing up replacement in Sammie Szmodics

And whilst Adebayo and Sammie Szmodics' profiles are completely different, the Blackburn Rovers man would be more than a suitable replacement in the club's bid to make a swift return to the Premier League.

Luton are said to face competition from the likes of Sheffield United and Brentford for the man who netted 33 goals for the Lancashire outfit in all competitions, 27 of which were in the Championship as he won the Golden Boot outright.

With two years left on his contract at Ewood Park, it may take a hefty fee for Town to prize him away from John Eustace's side, but if they could make a significant profit on the reported £250,000 paid for Adebayo back in January 2021, those funds could go a long way into any potential deal for the Blackburn playmaker.
