Everton have sacked manager Sean Dyche following a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Toffees have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions and sit just a point above the Premier League’s relegation places.

Everton have struggled for goals during the current campaign, netting just once in their last five games. The Merseysiders are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League, with only bottom-placed Southampton having scored fewer goals.

A decision has now been made to dismiss Dyche. Everton were taken over by The Friedkin Group last month, ending the turbulent tenure of Farhad Moshiri. The Americans, who also own Italian side AS Roma, agreed a fee in excess of £300m for a 99.5% stake in the club.

In an official statement, Everton said: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.

“Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club.

“The process to appoint a new manager is under way and an update will be provided in due course.

“Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”

The decision to sack Dyche comes as Everton prepare to face Peterborough United in the FA Cup’s third round this evening. Everton host the third-tier side at Goodison Park.
