European Championship now down to the final eight teams in Germany
The quarter-final lineup at Euro 2024 is now officially set.
The Netherlands impressed to end Romania’s run in the tournament and book their last-eight place on Tuesday night, where they will face Turkey after the latter’s thrilling defeat of Austria in Leipzig.
England squeezed into the quarters by defeating Slovakia on Sunday, courtesy of a late Jude Bellingham wonder strike before Harry Kane’s early extra-time winner. They will play Switzerland after their comfortable win over a disappointing Italy side as the defending champions were dumped out.
Portugal booked a match with France on Monday night having been taken to penalties by plucky Slovenia and Les Bleus only avoided a similar route past Belgium thanks to a late own goal from Jan Vertonghen.
Spain have made themselves arguably the new favourites to win the Euros having strolled through a tough group before scoring four goals against Georgia in their last-16 tie. But hosts Germany await in the quarters after they knocked out Denmark in controversial circumstances.
The draw for the knockout stages is pre-determined, leaving the road to the final in Berlin clear for each team.
