Enzo Raiola has admitted that it seems difficult for his client Giacomo Bonaventura to end up back at AC Milan, while he spoke about the idea of Gianluigi Donnarumma returning to Serie A.

Bonaventura spent six years at Milan and he established himself as one of the positives and the leaders during a tough period for the club. In 184 appearances for the club, he bagged 35 goals and 30 assists, establishing himself as a fan favourite.

The well-known journalist Carlo Pellegatti urged Milan to bring back Bonaventura to bring a bit of experience and versatility. The veteran midfielder is available on a free transfer this summer and could perhaps be the perfect addition in his eyes, but it does seem unlikely.

Enzo Raiola – the cousin of the late Mino and from whom he inherited a large portion of his agency – spoke to Radio Sportiva about many of his clients, including Bonaventura, Donnarumma and Andrea Pinamonti. His comments were relayed by Calciomercato.com.

What happened with Bonaventura?

“About Jack, I say that we expected something completely different from Fiorentina, after the meeting in January in which there were small problems with the late Joe Barone. Afterwards, however, we made peace and I thought that this would lead to a continuous relationship, but the management were not very convinced.

“And I, a player like him, if I am not convinced even by 0.01%, I think he should find another path and rely on another club. It is not respectful towards him to question him after his career and after the last season he played.

“He has repeatedly shown his pleasure in wanting to stay in Florence, given how he was treated by the city, the fans and also by the club itself. However, after this not very nice response from the technical area, I was the first to tell him that he had to leave.

“I say this not with regret, because I am prepared for these situations and I don’t believe in promises in football. I was already prepared, that’s fine. We are lucky to already have enough requests for him, we are evaluating solutions outside Italy too and in the next few days we will decide for the best.

“In Italy there are five or six clubs that have called me. I don’t see Milan as possible, I really see it as a dream but as a solution that is not very feasible. However, there are clubs that need his characteristics.

“We are working to understand if we can find an agreement, but we are also evaluating foreign solutions because he wanted to have an experience like this with his family. And we are working most of all on the MLS.

“Did Juventus want him in January? Yes, this path was there. Director Giuntoli had expressed to the club that they could find an agreement between the parties but there was a rather strong refusal from Fiorentina.

“And we accepted it, they were playing for things in the biggest part of the season. We tried, but it ended like this. Also because Jack is very grateful, he didn’t want to put too much pressure and continue at Fiorentina.”

Will Donnarumma end up back in Serie A?

“Anything can happen. He is now on holiday in his hometown… I confirm PSG’s great appreciation for him and the desire to continue the project. Gigio is still young: we still have 10-15 years ahead of us.”
