Enzo Maresca felt Cole Palmer was “very good” against Everton despite another game passing in which he didn’t score.

Palmer has now gone 17 games without scoring following the vital 1-0 win against Everton on Saturday lunchtime, which moved Chelsea back into the top five.

The 22-year-old hasn’t found the back of the net since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in January, whilst he’s only registered one assist in 2025 against Tottenham earlier this month.

Maresca feels Palmer’s struggles are mental and not tactical, but he’s consistently still named him in the starting line-up.

The England international is still Chelsea’s best attacker despite his current form, with Paul Merson giving three reasons as to why he feels Palmer is currently struggling.

Despite his continued struggles Maresca felt Palmer had a good game against the Toffees and highlighted two things he did really well.

“We have said many times that we don’t have doubts for the ones who for part of the season struggle a little bit, like Nico [Nicolas Jackson], like Cole, like Robert [Sanchez],” Maresca told Chelsea’s official website.

”It’s the moment you have to support them even more.

“Hopefully Cole soon can score goals, but I thought his performance today was very good. He sacrificed and was pressing well. It’s just a matter of time for all of them and for sure they are going to help us.”

Palmer is still Chelsea’s top scorer with 14 goals, whilst he’s also registered seven assists, but he’s become a victim of the high standards he set himself after a record breaking campaign last season.

The attacker still has a key role to play as Chelsea look to qualify for the Champions League and win the Conference League, which would be the first trophy under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.
