The Blues had to make do without the midfield pairing against Wolves
Enzo Maresca faces a nervous wait to discover how long Chelsea midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia will be out for.
The two key Chelsea men picked up “muscle fatigue” in last Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth and were left out of the squad for Monday’s 3-1 win over Wolves.
Both had missed training on Friday morning.
Maresca said after the victory over Wolves: “The Romeo [injury] is more important than the Enzo one. We don’t know yet how long they are going to be out. Hopefully not too long.
“It’s muscle fatigue or muscle problems. Both against Bournemouth. The Romeo one was the yellow card, if you remember, and Enzo against Bournemouth in the 92nd or 93rd minute.”
Maresca will await to be informed by medical experts how long the pair will be sidelined for.
Defender Renato Veiga is the subject of transfer interest from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus this month, but Maresca insisted this was not the reason the Portuguese was left out against Wolves.
“No, no,” he said. “It was a technical decision. We preferred, for instance, Ty [Tyrique George]. The reason was just for that.”
Maresca said of the victory over Wolves: “The first 40 minutes, the team was brilliant. And then what happened in the last five games happened again: after we conceded, we lost a little bit of confidence.
“Then, second half, we controlled the game and are happy for the three points.”
