Chelsea won’t be able to recall Trevoh Chalobah in an attempt to ease their defensive injury woes according to reports.
The Blues have made a good start to the season and currently sit fourth, three points ahead of Newcastle in fifth and on course to qualify for the Champions League at this point in time.
Enzo Maresca’s men head to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in the midst of a defensive injury crisis which could threaten to derail their season.
Injuries have been a real issue for the Blues over the past few years but it seemed this season things were starting to change.
However, Maresca gave some bad news in his pre-match press conference as he confirmed that Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season, whilst Benoit Badiashile will be out until February.

This leaves the Blues very light in defence and perhaps changes their plans in the transfer market, given the only senior centre backs they have available are Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi, although Renato Veiga can fill in if needed.
It’s a huge blow for not only the Blues but Fofana on a personal level given he missed the entire of last season with an ACL injury.
Chelsea have recalled 19-year-old Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors but he’s not ready to go straight into the team and play meaning the Blues need to find a solution this month.

One such solution could have been to recall Chalobah from Crystal Palace as a short term fix but The Athletic have reported that isn’t possible as there’s no recall option in his loan deal.
Maresca has hinted the Blues could now go into the transfer market and it will be interesting to see if they look for a temporary solution or go out and get one of their main targets which is notoriously difficult to do in January.
