Enzo Barrenechea moves from Aston Villa to Benfica

Aston Villa midfielder Enzo Barrenechea has headed to Benfica on loan, with the Portuguese side holding an option to buy him outright.

Benfica announced the signing on Friday. The 24-year-old joins on a season-long loan that cost €3 million, and the deal includes a €12 million buy clause, which will become compulsory if certain performance targets are reached.

As part of the agreement, Villa have secured a 30% sell-on clause for any future transfer involving the Argentine.

Barrenechea spent last season on loan at Valencia, where he caught the eye with his displays in La Liga, attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

During his time at Valencia, Barrenechea featured in 32 matches, scoring once and assisting twice. He was on loan from Villa, who had signed him from Juventus last summer for €11 million.
