The hunt to recruit Pep Guardiola as England’s next permanent head coach continues to be mentioned in new media reports regarding the ongoing situation at Wembley.

Manchester City’s most successful ever tactician is firmly into the final season of his existing Etihad Stadium contract, having last renewed and improved his agreement with the club back in the Autumn of his Treble-winning campaign of 2022/23.

There remains some concern within various quarters that Guardiola could yet bring an emotional end to his time with Manchester City, however it must be stressed that a decision is yet to be made by the 54-year-old.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, alongside support from owner Sheikh Mansour and director Txiki Begiristain, will continue to work tirelessly to formulate a persuasive plan to retain Guardiola, but the Catalan will no doubt be given enough space to make a decision peacefully.

In the meantime, other parties will no doubt be watching the situation with great interest, and that includes national teams with one eye towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup, especially in light of the USA men’s side and their successful hunt for Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the information of The Telegraph’s Matt Law, ‘some sources’ still claim that Manchester City’s legendary head coach Pep Guardiola would be the Football Association’s ‘dream’ England managerial appointment.

The Three Lions remain in a period of transition, naming Lee Carsley as their current interim head coach following the departure of Gareth Southgate in the summer, following on from England’s failure to win the European Championships at the final hurdle against Spain.

Carsley has began life in temporary charge of the England national team in style, recording two successive wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland in the UEFA Nations League, calling up four Manchester City stars in the process.

While Phil Foden withdrew through illness, Rico Lewis, John Stones, and Jack Grealish all put in commendable performances, with the former recording his second senior cap of his young career against Finland at Wembley.
