England fans watched on as Lee Carsley’s team hammered the Republic of Ireland 5-0.
A poor first half against an ultra-negative visiting side.
However, once England got their first goal eight minutes after the break, they never looked back.
Amongst the many comments (see below) from England fans, particularly interesting to read those about the three Newcastle United players who started the match.
A first time in over 27 years that a trio of NUFC players had started together for England.
Anthony Gordon getting his first ever England goal.
Whilst Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall got their first starts for the senior England side.
England fans commenting on BBC Sport after England 5 Republic of Ireland 0 and especially comments regarding Newcastle United trio Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon:
‘What a super young pair of full backs Newcastle have.’
‘Both Made in Chelsea, and good to see Cobham producing so many England internationals.’
‘Made in Chelsea but polished and refined by Eddie Howe (especially in the case of Lewis Hall).’
‘Toon Army!!! Great performance from the pair, Hall and Livramento are great for the future.’
‘A game of two halves! Big difference having 2 fit young fullbacks prepared to go forward.’
‘Lewis Hall, looked like he had 50 caps today.
Looked the part.’
‘Quality player.’
‘Credit to Carsley – playing pairs that play well together – particularly important of the less experienced players.
Hall & Gordon on the left to start was a perfect example of them knowing where each other were going to be – gains several extra seconds on overlaps etc.’
‘Congratulations to The Three Lions, done us proud tonight
Kudos too to the four England debut goal scorers: Gordon, Gallagher, Bowen and Harwood-Bellis’
‘Hall, Livramento, Gordon. It is surprising Eddie Howe wasn’t looked at closer for England manager role.’
‘Grateful to see Gordon, Hall & Livramento are without injuries.
Howay home to the Toon lads! ‘
‘What puzzles me is that Madueke is naturally left footed but plays on the right while Gordon is naturally right footed and plays on the left. Why not change them over?’
‘Its the way they play these days. Saka is also left footed but on the right, ditto Salah etc…. And then they do that thing where they come inside onto their favoured foot and bang one in the top corner, somehow defenders haven’t worked out to show them down the line on their weaker foot.’
‘Well done Anthony Gordon on his first England goal. Hope Thomas Tuchel sees his potential and there are many more.’
