England exit U19 Euro after losing to the Netherlands

England U19s crashed out of the U19 European Championship on Friday evening after losing 4-2 to the Netherlands at Giulesti Stadium in their final group game.England started the game brightly and created the game’s first chance in the 12th minute.
Crystal Palace’s Caleb Kporha passed in behind for Ethan Wheatley, but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens.The Netherlands took the lead in the 22nd minute as AZ Alkmaar youngster Kees Smit curled the ball into the net from the edge of the area, after a well-worked corner.They doubled their lead after the half-hour mark through Feyenoord striker Zepiqueno Redmond, who put the ball home after a brilliant team move.In the 42nd minute, Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink made it 3-0 to compound the woes of Will Antwi’s side.England started the second half better and were rewarded for their hard work when Wheatley scored in the 52nd minute.The Manchester United striker’s goal gave England momentum, but they could not reduce the deficit further as Germany extended their lead in the 69th minute.Against the run of play, they made a quick break through the midfield, and the move was finished off by Redmond.England kept pushing with Reiss Russell-Denny’s effort, forcing Heerkens to make some saves.Crystal Palace youngster Jesse Derry scored England’s second goal in the 93rd minute. He took a shot that deflected past the reach of Heerkens.Despite the loss, England could have qualified for the next round, but Germany scored in stoppage time to beat Norway 2-1, sealing their place in the semi-final.The Germans ended on four points, while England finished with two points, placing third in the standings.
