Bild reports that Eintracht Frankfurt will not pay more than €20m in their pursuit of Mainz and Germany striker Jonathan Burkardt.
The 24-year-old is interested in taking the next step in his career in the summer, and moving away from his boyhood club. Frankfurt are interested in brining the new German international across the Main river in the summer, while West Ham were also linked with a move for Burkardt in January.
Burkardt will not go anywhere in January, sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed.
Frankfurt see Burkardt as a potential replacement for Omar Marmoush, who could leave Deutsche Bank Park in the summer. However, the catch is that Die Adler does not want to spend more than €20m for Burkardt. Frankfurt’s desired transfer fee will likely not be enough for the 24-year-old, whose contract at Mainz lasts until 2027.
Burkardt is currently the their highest scorer in the Bundesliga with 10 goals behind Harry Kane (14) and Marmoush (13), his form earned him his first-ever call-up to the Germany senior side this season.
