Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller has confirmed USMNT international Paxten Aaronson’s impending transfer to America’s MLS. Aaronson will be moving to Colorado Rapids for a transfer fee totaling around €8m with bonuses. Toppmöller made clear that the youngster’s move away from the Bundesliga caught him and his staff by surprise.
Aaronson was among the Eintracht professionals who contributed an exceptionally strong training camp and was even a projected starter for his Bundesliga club. SGE chief personnel executive Markus Krösche made it clear this offseason that Eintracht were planning with Aaronson. The 21-year-old finally scored his first goal in Eintracht colors in the club’s DFB Pokal opener last weekend.
“I had a lengthy conversation with Paxten yesterday,” Toppmöller revealed at a Thursday press conference. “In my opinion, he’s a very exciting player who’s set to go places. We had a responsibility to the young man [in accepting Aaronson’s transfer request] due to the fierce state of competition.
“I expect great things from him,” Toppmöller went on to say in reference to his valued prospect. “He’s a great lad and a very exciting player. I’m hopeful that we’ll see him in Europe again sometime, potentially with us.“
