The 2024-25 EFL Cup semi-final draws have been conducted with Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all vying for a place in the final.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle were victorious against Crystal Palace, Southampton and Brentford respectively in Wednesday’s quarter-final fixtures, while Tottenham just about did enough to come out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Manchester United on Thursday.

Seeking only a third EFL Cup title, Arsenal will face off against Newcastle in the last-four stage, while Tottenham will have to navigate the challenge of current holders Liverpool.

The semi-finals will be contested over two legs, a format that has been in place since the tournament’s inception in 1960 with first leg scheduled for the week beginning January 6th 2025, just under a month before the second leg takes place in the week beginning February 3rd.

The EFL Cup represents the first major piece of silverware available in the English football calendar and all four teams will have their sights set on a trip to Wembley at the end of February.

Newcastle were beaten finalists against Manchester United two years ago and have a shot at redemption as Tottenham look to go one better this time around having lost out to Manchester City in the 2021 final.

For Liverpool, it is all about defending their title and winning a third EFL Cup in four years to hand Arne Slot his first trophy at the helm of affairs since taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have struggled in the League Cup in stark contrast to the FA Cup but now have the opportunity to go all the way in this competition for the first time in over three decades.

Having discovered their respective semi-final opponents, the teams can now turn their attention to this weekend’s Premier League action.
