Midfielder Edoardo Bove is currently awake and lucid after he suddenly collapsed on the pitch in the 17th minute of Fiorentina’s league clash against Inter on Sunday night.
Sky Sport reports Bove, whose on loan from Roma, is doing well after he was admitted to Careggi Hospital’s intensive care unit under pharmacological sedation last night.
He was extubated in the morning and, thankfully, Fiorentina confirmed neurological and cardiac damage have been ruled out—a positive development following yesterday’s scary scenes.
Bove, 22, abruptly collapsed to the ground midway through the first half during a brief pause in play while the referees review a goal from Lautaro Martinez.
Both teams urgently signaled for the medical staff to enter the field, while the players formed a protective circle around him. He was carried off on a stretcher and transported to a waiting ambulance after the referee instructed both teams to leave the pitch—the match ultimately being abandoned.
He’ll be monitored over the coming days, but the signs over his health have been positive thus far.
