Eintracht beat Hesse club FC Alsbach 11-0 in Tuesday’s post-season friendly.

For the first of this summer’s ‘Eintracht in the Region’ series of friendlies, Ellyes Skhiri and Ansgar Knauff were the only players in the line-up who started in Saturday’s Bundesliga finale against Leipzig. The team nevertheless contained plenty of experience, with the likes of Timothy Chandler, Philipp Max and Hrvoje Smolcic included.

And it was Skhiri who opened the scoring after seven minutes, showing good feet in the penalty area to round the goalkeeper and slot the ball in. Despite the heavens opening, Eintracht continued to dominate their lower-league opponents and doubled their lead on 10 minutes, when Knauff collected a neat pass from Chandler before drilling home. Just a minute later, the hosts had the opportunity to pull a goal back from the penalty spot, but Kauã Santos saved. The next goal didn’t arrive until the 27th minute, courtesy of a fine run and finish from Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, and 3-0 was how it stayed until half-time.

The goals flowed more freely in the second half. Half-time substitute Aurélio Buta made it 4-0 on 52 minutes, before a Nacho Ferri strike and an own goal in the space of two minutes extended the lead to six goals. Like Buta, Anas Alaoui then got on the scoresheet shortly after coming on, before Chandler added to his assists with a goal of his own.

The highlight of the afternoon for the crowd of 3,900 was probably the 75th-minute introduction of Sebastian Rode, who played at Alsbach as a youngster and is retiring this summer. After fellow substitute Farès Chaibi made it 9-0, Rode set up Alaoui for his second before the young striker completed his hat-trick just a minute later, making it a final scoreline of 11-0. “It was a great evening for everyone involved,” said Dino Toppmöller. “The boys took it seriously, even though it was a friendly match, and it was great to be close to the people in the region. Eintracht thrives on this kind of intimacy. We’re delighted that we were able to bring joy to so many children in particular.” “I would have liked to score one, but scoring goals has never been my strong suit,” joked Seppl Rode afterwards.
