Matteo Moretto reports that Denzel Dumfries will likely sign a short-term contract extension with Inter after holding preliminary talks with Manchester United last summer.

Inter defender Dumfries is expected to sign a contract extension at the Stadio Meazza, transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports.

Moretto wrote in his latest DailyBriefing column that Inter are planning to offer the Netherlands international a short-term contract.

‘It could be just a year or maybe more, but not a long-term deal,’ wrote Moretto.

Inter are in the process of offering Dumfries a new contract and the Dutch defender is happy in Milan, both on and off the pitch.

‘I’m told he will sign a new deal, though, despite the lack of a public announcement,’ added Moretto.

Dumfries’ contract at the Stadio Meazza expires in June 2025, and Moretto confirms that his entourage held talks with Manchester United last summer.

However, negotiations were never advanced, and nothing was agreed between the two clubs and the player.

Dumfries’ Inter stay suggests that the 28-year-old is open to extending his contract, so Inter hope to finalise negotiations in the coming weeks.

Dumfries joined Inter in a €14.2m deal from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021. He has 11 goals and 20 assists in 134 appearances with the defending Serie A champions.
