Lyon have placed Duje Ćaleta-Car (27) on the transfer list, just one year after making his move from Southampton permanent, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Croatian international no longer features in the club’s plans under new manager Paulo Fonseca.
The centre-back, who joined OL on loan in the summer of 2023, made 29 appearances in all competitions during a promising first campaign, prompting the club to activate their €3.59m purchase option – a deal which could rise to €5.7m with add-ons and includes a 15% resale clause.
However, Ćaleta-Car gradually fell out of favour in the second half of the season. Despite playing 28 games (23 starts) across all competitions, he ended the campaign largely confined to the bench.
With OL under pressure to reduce their wage bill and stay within DNCG parameters, the former Marseille defender has been made available for transfer. Foot Mercato indicate that newly promoted Premier League side Sunderland are keeping tabs on the player, while interest has also emerged from Turkey – though suggestions of moves to Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor remain unconfirmed.
Lyon have already sanctioned the high-profile departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Rayan Cherki, the latter joining Manchester City for a reported €42.5m including bonuses. Ćaleta-Car is the latest name to be pushed towards the exit door as the club continue their summer clear-out.GFFN | George Boxall
