Double champions, Palmeiras U17 return to Club World Cup action in Spain

The Palmeiras Under-17 team is in Spain to compete in the Club World Cup for the category. The intercontinental tournament, featuring important teams from different continents, will be held in the city of Córdoba starting this Monday (1), with the final scheduled for September 10.

First training session this Sunday

The Palmeiras Under-17 team held its first training session in the city of Córdoba, Spain, this Sunday (31). The activity was also the last before the team’s debut in the competition.

The Palmeiras delegation arrived in Spain on Sunday afternoon and took to the field just a few hours later. The training session was focused on the match against Real Betis-ESP, which will take place this Monday (01), at El Pandero Stadium, at 3:30 PM (Brasília time).

In their first session in Córdoba, Artur Itiro’s coaching staff fine-tuned the team’s tactical details. After a warm-up focused on fundamentals, the players worked on offensive build-up without opposition. Finally, the athletes practiced set pieces.

A regular starter for the Under-17s, midfielder Ruan Yago spoke about the special moment the team is experiencing, as they lead the Brazilian Championship for the category in commanding fashion. The 16-year-old player also commented on the fact that Palmeiras has won the last two editions of the Under-17 Club World Cup.

“You can already feel that the group is very confident, everyone is united. This preparation started back in São Paulo, and we came here to win the title, the three-peat. The great strength of this group is unity—the players born in 2008 embraced those from 2009, everyone is together on this journey,” said the player, who added: “We have to put Palmeiras where it belongs, which is always at the top. It’s a special opportunity, a lot of people are watching us. It’s amazing that Palmeiras gives us this chance, and we also have the visibility of being the current two-time champions.”

Good track record

The Palmeiras team won the World Cup for the first time in 2018, when they defeated Real Madrid-ESP 4-2 in the final, with goals from Gabriel Silva, Gabriel Veron, Fabrício, and Luan Cândido. The following year, the Academy’s Youngsters also took the title, this time beating Leganés-ESP 2-1, with goals from Garcia and Gabriel Silva.
