Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has provided his take on the club’s concerning defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Atlético, of course, were back in action late on Sunday evening.
In their opening outing at the newly-formatted FIFA Club World Cup, the Rojiblancos were afforded the daunting task of taking on Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
And to say that the Spanish outfit struggled over the course of the 90 minutes would be putting it lightly…
Bested all over the pitch at the Rose Bowl, Atléti ultimately found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 4-0 result.
And as alluded to above, amid heavy fan backlash in the game’s aftermath, Diego Simeone has since provided his take on the action in California.
In quotes relaid by Mundo Deportivo, the Argentine began:
“When we won the ball back, we didn’t link up well. We went 2-1 up, but the referee decided not to count that goal, making things even more complicated. Lenglet’s red card caused more chaos, and they ended up rounding out the match. From an intentional and committed perspective, I saw a team that tried to do it, but couldn’t. This tough defeat forces us to get good results.”
Simeone continued:
“The goal difference is tough. Four goals is a lot. We’re focused on the match on the 19th. We know there can be turbulence along the way, and there was.”
