In a major setback for Maghreb de Fès (MAS), the Moroccan club has failed in its ambitious bid to sign South African striker Tshegofatso Mabasa from Orlando Pirates.

A senior club official confirmed that MAS tabled a club-record €850,000 offer to Pirates in hopes of securing the 28-year-old forward. The substantial bid highlighted the Fès-based side’s determination to bolster their attack ahead of the new season.

However, Mabasa turned down the move after discussions with his camp, opting to remain loyal to the Buccaneers. The experienced striker, valued at €1.8 million (Transfermarkt), believes now is not the right time for an overseas switch and aims to continue making an impact at his long-time club.

With stints at Royal AM, Bloemfontein Celtic, Sekhukhune United, and Moroka Swallows, Mabasa is one of the PSL’s most seasoned forwards. His rejection leaves MAS scrambling for alternatives as they look to strengthen their squad under their new manager.
