Roma fullback Devyne Rensch discussed his January move to the Italian capital and reflected on the differences between the Giallorossi and his former club Ajax.
In an interview with De Telegraaf, Rensch said, “The weather and food are good, Rome is a fantastic city. But I’m there for the football and the beauty of the landscapes pushes me to try harder, instead of just watching.”
“In my first semester I suffered from minor injuries, which prevented me from being fully fit for some games. It was all hectic. You arrive in another country, you are busy with many things, you have to organize a move. I think all of this contributed. Fortunately, now I am fit and I feel very good.”
“The fans are fantastic, something to be proud of. I am a player who adapts quickly to everything, in life and in football. You can see how in Italy people live for football and for the team. It is nice to see it and they transmit it to you too. In these cases, you want to show it on the pitch.”
“Salah-Eddine? We speak Dutch together. We eat together, we do everything together. He is not only a teammate, but also a good friend. I have been in the team with Anass since the Ajax U-16s. So we know each other very well and he knows that I always support him and that he will always be like that.”
“The main difference between Roma and Ajax is the winning mentality that reigns in Italy. At Ajax we also wanted to win everything, but in Dutch football you get a lot of criticism if you win 1-0 with poor football. In Italy, however, the three points are what count most. Even if you kick twenty balls out of the stadium. Three points are three points and the rest doesn’t matter. You can see it in the game. There are many more duels, one-on-ones to win, there is a fight for every ball and the differences between the two teams are often minimal.”
