Barry is destined for a move to Bramall Lane this summer.
Louie Barry is close to becoming Sheffield United's latest addition of the summer, with the Aston Villa youngster set to join the club on loan.
Aside from the niche additions that the Blades have made from Central Europe this summer, transfers that are very unlikely to cause Ruben Selles issues when it comes to picking a first XI, their first two major deals of this window, if all goes well with Barry, will be two marquee ones.
Tyler Bindon came first. A standout centre-back last season for Reading, he has moved to Bramall Lane temporarily following his switch to Nottingham Forest. The Villa attacker looks set to follow the New Zealander down the same path.
The 22-year-old was reportedly set to head back to the MKM Stadium to rejoin Hull City on a permanent deal before issues with the structure of the sale led to it collapsing. The Athletic reported that Hull's agreement with the former Champions League side was worth £3.5 million and included a mammoth 50 per cent sell-on clause.
Barry, a former Barcelona academy member, had been sent to Selles, who was then in charge of the Tigers, in January, but he soon picked up a season-ending knee injury that didn't allow him to show what he could do after making the step up in level.
According to The Athletic, the failed sale to Hull left the Blades as the most likely destination for Barry. He is edging closer to completing a move there, but there is one crucial element of the deal that has been revealed.
United will not have the option to buy Barry from Villa at the end of his loan spell, as per The Athletic.
The winger was a highly coveted player when the Tigers first landed him in the winter. He came to the club off the back of a staggering spell with Stockport County that saw him rack up 15 goals in 23 appearances in League One.
This extremely high standard that he set warranted him a move to the second tier once he was recalled by Villa, and it still carries a lot of weight now.
Blades supporters, as much as they should be very excited by the prospect of seeing Barry play in the red and white stripes, will also be aware that not everyone transitions well from the third tier to the Championship.
Last season, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, another young Premier League attacker that half of the division was seemingly after, joined United on loan from Crystal Palace. This was his first time away from Selhurst Park since the 2022/23 campaign, which launched him into many EFL minds thanks to his time with Charlton Athletic.
Granted, Rak-Sakyi wasn't the overawing talent with the Addicks that Barry was in League One, but the Palace youngster's struggles at times last season will serve as a slight reminder that these mega signings, especially more youthful ones, don't always play out as you had hoped.
