John Eustace has already added Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Richard O'Donnell and Carlton Morris to his ranks this summer.

The Rams promised their new boss that he would be backed in the transfer market upon his arrival and they are keen to deliver on that.

Derby’s pursuit of Agyemang has been well-documented for weeks now, but it looks like they may have finally got the move done.

According to American journalist Tom Bogert via X, the Rams and Charlotte FC have reached an agreement in principle for the USMNT forward.

The deal is in the region of $10 million (£8.4 million) - $8 million (£5.9 million) plus $2 million (£1.5 million) in bonuses - with the MLS outfit retaining a sell-on clause.

The 24-year-old centre-forward has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 18 total appearances for the MLS outfit in the 2025 season, and is currently at the Gold Cup with the USA.

Derby's Championship rivals Ipswich Town were reported to be in for the striker's services too, but now look set to miss out.

Agyemang signed for Charlotte FC in February 2023 via the MLS SuperDraft, as the 12th overall selection. Before his professional career, the marksman spent time at the University of Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut State University.

The striker’s first season at Charlotte FC saw him split his time between the club’s first team and their MLS NEXT Pro (the nation’s development division) outfit, Crown Legacy FC. Netting 10 times in 12 appearances there saw him solidify his place in the main side’s 11, where he has remained ever since.

A move for Agyemang would see a mammoth investment from Derby and also allow them to add some youth to their ranks, in a summer that has seen Eustace and co recruit mainly experienced profiles.

Patrick Agyemang will be under pressure to perform immediately given Derby County price-tag

Eustace is reaping the rewards of his gamble to leave play-off-chasing Blackburn Rovers for relegation-bound Derby County last term, with the club backing him sufficiently in the transfer market.

Signing Agyemang represents a significant outlay of money from the Rams, in a deal that would move him to second in their all-time record purchases when add-ons are included.

This means that despite his tender age, pressure will be on the 24-year-old to perform immediately.

Time will tell whether he can deliver, but Eustace and his transfer team clearly believe he is the man to take their attack to the next level.
